Thank goodness for Rock, Paper, Shotgun – they’ve made me aware of some incredible games in the past. Even though this particular post came from PC Gamer, I wouldn’t have spotted it if it wern’t for ol’ reliable RPS.
This game is from an indie developer called Andrew, he has a blog called Andrew Makes Stuff I’ve not played any of his games before but they all look quite interesting. His new game Hide seems to be a departure from what he usually does with a focus on 3D and audio.

Hide is a game where you must find as many ‘objects’ within an area whilst trying to evade beams of light. This game is most similar to the iOS game Papa Sangre where you have no navigate an environment by following sound. Each of the objects you have to find in Hide make a single piano note sound and because the visuals are of such obscurity, it’s often your ears that are doing most of the navigating.
Audio is such key feature here and it does so much to create a genuinly scary atmosphere. Visually this game is equally magnificent, when stationary the game looks like a gorgeously pixalated 2D game but in motion you find that it has real depth. Some people are bound to complain that they can’t see anything but they are missing the point.
The game has a bit of a WW2 vibe, with sirens blaring and giant searchlights beaming into the sky. It leaves a lot to the imagination letting your fill in the blanks of who you are, how you ‘escaped’ and what is following you. There’s also an underlay of surreality to it all, as well as the abstract visuals there’s also few cryptic messages for you to find.
This game has put Andrew into the spotlight for a while now, this game won’t be easily forgotten so hopefully this exposure with inspire him to create other equally interesting games.
GOOD JOB!
